2012 Operation We Care Allendale
Minimize

Operation We Care Allendale (OWCA) is March 17!  Our purpose in being there is to be the presence of Christ as we build relationships and do needed work.  The event will be organized by Allendale residents but we will be helping in several areas, specifically with a reading fair, a sports and games fair, and with some construction projects.  Register online now.

Registration and pancake breakfast is at First Baptist Church from 8-9am. The registration fee is $20. That includes a pancake breakfast, lunch, insurance, project expenses, and a t-shirt.  When you register, indicate the skills and/or interest you have from the following list:

  • Reading Fair:  The Reading Fair will be held at Allendale Elementary School from 10 am to 2 pm. Organizing and running this event are Carrie Veal Chewning, associate pastor for children at Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg and a group of volunteers from that church; and Martha Patrick and a youth group from FBC Lake City.
  • Sports & Games Fair: The Sports and Games Fair will also be at the elementaryschool and will be led by Travis Crocker, minister to students at FBC Anderson, and volunteers from that church.
  • Construction Projects:  The African American Cultural Center and Museum needs to be reroofed, the stage rebuilt and windows replaced. We need roofers, carpenters and people to set windows.  We also need carpenters who can build a porch for a family that includes a physically handicapped man, a mentally challenged daughter who needs dialysis three times a week, and a grandmother with Alzheimer’s.
  • Other related needs:Yard work, painting, help starting a community garden.
  • Nursing Home: We need a church to provide a leader and volunteers for a VBS type program at the nursing home from 9am to noon. This would be a good project for a church youth group.  The nursing home provides food for a picnic type meal which volunteers cook. First Baptist has a grill that can be borrowed to cook the hotdogs and hamburgers.

Bring tools appropriate to the job you sign up for, such as brushes, rollers and roller pans, ladders, work gloves, hammers, masonry equipment, saws – skill, circular, etc.

So that we can plan appropriately, you MUST register in advance.  Final registration closes Friday, March 12th ($20).  Register online now.  Call or email Debbie in the CBFSC office with questions.
